The Catalan: 3.g3

In the Catalan White fianchettoes the light-squared bishop on g2 (a fianchetto is a bishop developed on the long diagonal behind a pawn moved one square), where it bears down the h1–a8 diagonal at your queenside. The simple, principled answer: develop, castle, then take on c4 and use the time White spends regaining it to play …a6, …b5 and …Bb7 (or …Bd7–c6), blocking the g2-bishop.
