Some players dodge the Scandinavian with 2.e5, 2.Nc3, 2.d3 or 2.Nf3. None of these is dangerous; you just need one sound plan against each.

  • 2.e5 Bf5 3.d4 e6 4.Nf3 c5 (core)
  • 2.e5 Bf5 3.d4 e6 4.Bd3: trade bishops (deeper)
  • 2.Nc3 d4: grab space (core)
  • 2.d3: trade queens (important)
  • 2.Nf3 dxe4 3.Ng5: the Tennison Gambit (deeper)
